Position Summary – Substitute Teacher /Casual

Founded in 2010, the Waldorf Independent School of Edmonton (WISE) is a solidly established and yet growing school that fosters an environment where the whole child is nourished.

The school is supported by a caring group of parents and teachers, serving children from kindergarten to grade 9. The individual must be passionate about, or interested in learning and implementing Waldorf pedagogy. Funds and bursaries are available to facilitate Waldorf training for those moving into ongoing positions. In-house mentoring is also provided. Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor of Education Degree.
  • Must have an Alberta Teaching Certificate.
  • Police records check including vulnerable sector within the last 6 months
  • Nurturing personality.
  • Artistically and musically inclined is an asset.
  • Committed to on-going personal and professional development.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to multi-task with confidence.
  • Excellent classroom management skills.
  • Creativity and independence in lesson planning skills.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Interest in attending Waldorf teacher training in-services or other Waldorf education opportunities is preferred.
  • Teaching experience is desired.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Wage: Full day rate: $210 and half day rate of $120 (4 or less hours)
  • Hours and Length of Year:
  • Classroom contact hours vary, from 8:15 AM to 3:25 PM, Monday to Friday.
  • Classes run September to June.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all Equivalent Learning Outcome documentation is up to date as required by Alberta Education and plans given for the day are followed

*All new employees are subject to a 3 month probationary period.

  • A brief note outlining the grades you are most interested in or comfortable substitute teaching with - (from kindergarten to grade 9) and your availability for subbing during the upcoming year.

Salary: Up to $210.00 per day
